Title: configure --enable-man-compression error

Version: 8.6
Description:
Howdy,

This build system is Fedora 44 (fully up to date). Code is cloned from the git repo.

With the configure option "--enable-man-compression=zstd", configure builds a Makefile in [tcl,tk]/unix with an error in it.

Here's the error indication for the tcl part:

 make -j $ncpus
+ make -j 15
Makefile:254: *** missing separator. Stop.

Here's a tcl/unix/Makefile snippet showing the error (the same error also exists in the tk/unix/Makefile).

When I join the two lines (253 and 254 for the tcl Makefile) and run make manually, the problem is resolved and tcl builds... same for the tk/unix/Makefile (line 338).

    249 #CC = purify -best-effort gcc -DPURIFY
    250
251 # Flags to be passed to installManPage to control how the manpages should be
252 # installed (symlinks, compression, package name suffix).
    253 MAN_FLAGS = --symlinks --compress zstd --extension
    254 .zst

I have full build logs available if needed.

Best regards,

George...

Wow, that's old. I can reproduce it with 8.6 as well.

Thanks for the report!
